Steve Nesbitt
President/General Manager
Steve formed S.S. Nesbitt & Co. in 2001 after leaving his position as vice president and head of corporate asset protection with one of the nation's largest insurance brokers. He began his insurance career in 1981 as a casualty underwriter after receiving his bachelor's degree in insurance/finance from the University of Alabama. He later returned to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to obtain his master's degree in hospital and health administration. Steve spent three years working with a large hospital chain and in 1988 decided to continue his career in insurance as a producer with the nation's no. 6 broker. As one of over 500 agency salespersons, he moved quickly up the ranks as a top sales achiever from 1989 through 2000. In the late 1990s, Steve began to specialize in writing coverage for executive risk management and within a short time was responsible for writing over 20 percent of all directors' and officers' insurance for publicly traded companies in the state of Alabama. In 1998 he was assigned to oversee the placement of all executive risk coverage for more than 80 branch offices nationwide, totaling more than $10 million in premiums within the first year.
In 2001, Steve left his position to form S.S. Nesbitt & Co. As president and general manager of S.S. Nesbitt, he is responsible for the overall operations of the agency, as well as securing new business and maintaining client satisfaction. Steve's initial business plan for S.S. Nesbitt & Co. was to focus on medium to large accounts within Alabama and the Southeast, but he and his experienced staff also enjoy serving the needs of small businesses where a strong relationship exists.
